Failure A Love Story
Failure: A Love Story by Philip Dawkins
Tickets on sale September 3, 2013 at 8am
Our first production of the season is Failure: A Love Story by Philip Dawkins,  a magical, musical fable about the triumphs and aspirations of three sisters living in the rickety two-story building by the Chicago River (the Fail family home and clock shop) in 1928. Nelly was the first to die, followed soon after by sisters, Jenny June and Gerty. As with many unforeseen circumstances in life—blunt objects, disappearances and consumption—they never saw death coming. This profoundly funny and moving offering reminds us that in the end, all that remains is love. Said Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun Times of the Chicago production: “A wholly wonderful show that is profound, yet at the very same time whimsical beyond all imagining — a show in which time is of the essence, and in which love and death (especially death that comes suddenly and prematurely) conjoin in the strangest yet most beautiful of waltzes.” Running October 10th through the 26th at the Dairy Center for the Arts, and directed by Amanda Berg Wilson.

FEED Short & Sweet

Three years makes a tradition! In FEED: Short & Sweet, we will again explore that wonderfully magical time of year when the days are short, the nights are long, but the possibility of magic and revelation is as thick as the cold. Taking place Sunday, December 15th. Directed by Lauren Shepard.

There is A Happiness
There Is A Happiness That Morning Is by Mickle Maher
Tickets on sale January 20, 2014 at 8AM
Our second production of the season, There is A Happiness That Morning Is by Mickle Maher, is a comedy in rhymed verse told via two lectures on the poetry of William Blake: one given in the morning by Bernard, a middle-aged, barely published poet of scant scholarship, on the Songs of Innocence, and the other in the afternoon by his lover, Ellen, a reputable Ph.D., on the Songs of Experience. Having engaged the evening before in a highly inappropriate display of public affection on the main lawn of their rural New England campus, the two undergraduate lecturers must now, in class, either apologize for their behavior or effectively justify it if they want to keep their jobs. Wrote Justin Hayward in the Chicago Reader of the original production: “[R]ich, funny, and more heartbreaking than ever… If the American theater harbors a precedent for Mickle Maher’s astonishing 2011 play There Is a Happiness That Morning Is, I’ve never found it . . .“ March 6-22 at the Dairy Center for the Arts, directed by Company Member Meridith C. Grundei.

  1. Please add me to your mailing list. Do you use the same theater troupe or do you hold auditions? Looking forward to seeing an upcoming show. Thanks!

    • Hi Vicki!

We have a company who is featured in most productions, but every show also has roles that are cast from open auditions. Auditions will be happening in May for our next season. Stay tuned! (And come check out THERE IS A HAPPINESS THAT MORNING IS at the Dairy March 7-30!)
