Meet Lettice Boyer, a 110 year-old Black matriarch who is just looking for some cheese and light bread. Did you bring some?

Well, if you’re going to stay a while, come sit next to her rocking chair as she recounts her family’s struggle with the mythical entity called Boo Hag and weaves fantastical tales conjured from her century of living.

ONE WAY-BACK DAY brings African, Black, Gullah, and GeeChee American traditional oral folklore and stories to kinetic, dynamic, explosive life. With Lettice as your guide, you’ll encounter sea dragons, a talking red fish, magical talking eggs, and a perfect daughter (who just happens to be a yam). You’ll revisit the past, jump forward generations, explore historic waters, and ultimately reconcile a fraught familial relationship. And so much more.

After supporting the development of this breathtakingly original piece, The Catamounts are proud to present its world-premiere here at the Dairy.
