Happy Spring!

We are going full-speed here at Catamounts headquarters teaching, planning, and creating two new works, Pride of the Farm and The Estate Sale.

Here’s the full scoop on what we’re up to:

  • We are so excited to have commissioned two Colorado playwrights, Jeffrey Neuman and Josh Hartwell, for two very different up-coming shows. The two pieces will run concurrently in June.
  • We’ve spend the first part of this year in workshops reading and revising both these pieces, Pride of the Farm and The Estate Sale, and are preparing for our auditions which will take place in the coming weeks.
  • While the Catamounts are focused on boundary-pushing professional theater, we dearly love giving back to the next generation of young artists and facilitating a hands-on creative experience for them. That’s why we have been helping elementary school age children to write and star in their own musical plays for the past 13 years.
  • While our residencies are in partnership with particular schools in Boulder, we open this experience up to all Boulder children later this summer June 12-19 with Camp Catamounts! Registration is open and you can sign up here.

Hope you are having a lovely April and we can wait to see you all at these shows in June.

Pride of the Farm was conceived of, and will be directed by, Amanda Berg Wilson and is being written by Jeffrey Neuman.

You might remember Jeffrey’s work from his past collaboration with The Catamounts, Land of Milk and Honey, an exploration of the history of Shoenberg Farm that won a 2021 True West award.

Pride of the Farm is inspired by the biography of former Colorado Attorney General John Metzger. The piece explores the parallels between social and environmental justice, and how to advocate for unpopular but necessary policies, as Metzger did.

The piece will be the fifth collaboration between the City of Westminster and The Catamounts.

Tickets for go on sale for Pride of the Farm May 1st, and the show runs June 1 through June 25th.

At the same time we’ve commissioned Josh Hartwell to write and direct The Estate Sale, an immersive art and theatrical installation created in collaboration with artist Brad Ramsey at The People’s Building of Aurora.

I recently sat down with Josh Hartwell to learn more about this project and him as a playwright, director, and actor, and I can’t wait to share this interview with you later this month.

Tickets for this piece will also go on sale May 1st and the show will run June 4-24.

We have already begun our 13th annual residency at Heatherwood Elementary, where we are helping the 2nd graders to write and perform an original play with music.

And registration is open for Camp Catamounts June 12-16, 2023. Click HERE.
